The tragic murder of international tennis player Radhika Yadav by her own father, Deepak Yadav, on July 10, has shocked the community. While Deepak initially confessed to the crime, the ongoing police investigation has revealed a complex story with multiple contradictory claims about the motive, leaving the true reason for the murder unclear.
The Crime and the Initial Confession
On the day of the murder, Deepak Yadav shot his daughter four times with his revolver as she was making breakfast in their Gurugram home. After the incident, he confessed to the crime and was arrested. His initial claim was that he was stressed by villagers who taunted him about living off his daughter’s earnings.
New Revelations from the Police Investigation
The police investigation quickly brought to light several inconsistencies with Deepak’s initial story. The police cleared Radhika’s mother of any involvement, stating she was unaware of her husband’s plan. The investigation also found that the murder was premeditated, as Deepak had sent his son away on an errand he normally performed himself.
Contrary to Deepak’s claim, villagers stated that they were proud of Radhika’s success and never taunted her father. Furthermore, Deepak’s friends revealed that he was a wealthy man with multiple properties in Gurugram, earning a substantial monthly rental income, which directly contradicts his claim of being financially dependent on his daughter. After the murder, Deepak told his uncle that he had committed “Kanyavadh” (the killing of a daughter) and asked to be killed himself, also requesting the police to write his statement in a way that would guarantee a death sentence.
Allegations from a Friend
Radhika’s close friend, Himanshika Singh, posted two videos on social media making serious allegations against the family. She described Radhika’s life as difficult due to her father’s controlling and critical nature. Himanshika claimed that Deepak was ashamed of Radhika for her modern lifestyle, including her choice of clothing and her interactions with boys. She also stated that the family was conservative and constantly under societal pressure, forcing Radhika to constantly justify her actions.
In response, the family denied rumors that the murder was related to Radhika wanting to marry a boy from a different caste, stating that their family was not so uneducated as to oppose such a marriage.
It concludes by stating that the true motive behind the murder remains unclear and requires further police investigation.
